Cambridge University undergraduate Charlie Gilmour, 21, who was photographed swinging from a Union flag on the Cenotaph, pleaded guilty to one charge of violent disorder after the demonstration in London last year was marred by violence.

During the riots a Rolls-Royce carrying the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall was surrounded by a mob which began to throw missiles at the vehicle.

The rear passenger window was smashed in the attack and the Duchess was prodded in the side with a stick.

Gilmour, from Billinghurst, West Sussex, was accused of leaping onto the bonnet of a car carrying royal protection officers accompanying the Prince and the Duchess.

He was also accused of throwing a bin at the royal convoy and smashing a window at a branch of Topshop.

Gilmour had been accused of stealing a mannequin leg, but that charge was later withdrawn.

He has pleaded guilty to taking part in the riot but the details of the specific offences are yet to be agreed between the Crown and the defence team.

Judge Nicholas Price, QC, granted Gilmour conditional bail ahead of sentencing so he can complete his second year exams at Cambridge.

But he warned him that he could still face a prison term when he returns to court for sentencing on July 8.

He said: "The fact that I am granting you bail is of no indication whatsoever that you will be dealt with in a non-custodial way.

"You must understand that your plea of guilty to violent disorder is a serious matter and it may be that the proper course would be one of immediate custody."

Gilmour, who is studying history at Girton College, Cambridge, was among thousands of people who protested in the capital on December 9 over Government plans for university tuition fees.

He sparked widespread anger however when an image of him swinging from the Cenotaph appeared in the national press.

The day after the riots he issued an apology, describing it as a "moment of idiocy".

In a statement he said: "I feel nothing but shame. My intention was not to attack or defile the Cenotaph. Running along with a crowd of people who had just been violently repelled by the police, I got caught up in the spirit of the moment."

Gilmour's biological father is poet and playwright Heathcote Williams but he was adopted by the rock star when his mother, writer and journalist Polly Samson, remarried.

What Silvio Berlusconi has done without losing any dignity is to acknowledge a truth that I spoke about twenty years ago. I did so in Britain.

I addressed my thoughts primarily to John Major, who was in occupation at No 10 Downing Street. When I spoke I did so in the immediate context of John Major’s then imminent address to the United Nations Organisation. Twenty years ago, the world was significantly less tense.

But it didn't feel that way where I was witnessing events. The tension then was not around “terrorism”. But there was a kind of terrorism in the air in the mainstream western media. That tension was being fuelled by daily “media” stories of an invasion. Invasion of the West by the non-Europeans. Mostly people from Africa.

Thousands of people were risking their lives trying to get into the West by getting on boats and sometimes boarding ships.

The spectre that was being painted by the mainstream media was as it was intended to be. To frighten the people, the indigenous people in the West.

So what did I say? I said to John Major - and the leaders of the Western Governments - that they had to face it.

Address the issue.

Start a programme of dealing with and eradicating hunger and starvation from the countries of origins of the desperate people, seeking new lives in Western Europe. I said that the issue was not as it was being painted by the media in the West. Th media painted the hungry, the starving as something else. Something like an invading army. Like an army of occupation. Nothing could be further from the truth. The widespread social impact of large numbers of hungry starving people arriving anywhere was something that could not be denied.

Ought not to be denied. So I argued that the “leaders” of the Western governments

had to stop being indifferent to the challenge. I said that the hungry, starving people would increase in number and the Western societies could become very tense if the challenge was not resolved. The way to solve hunger and poverty is to deal with t in the countries of the hungry people. Twenty years on, the leaders of western Governments have stayed silent. Only Berlusconi has now made a most reluctant admission of the problem. How long will it take the others before they face it and start addressing hunger and starvation in Africa? In parts of Asia? The key reason why I organised the “Khoodeelaar! campaign against the Big Business agenda Crossrail hole attacks on the Brick Lane LondoN E1 area....” [late December 2003 as a concept and in January 2004 as an active ongoing phenomenon] was and remains the utter necessity and need to diagnose, identify, expose and thereby to also stop and to undermine the CREATION OF ADDITIONAL poverty in the East End of London.
That was the key motivator for the Khoodeelaar! campaign being established and advocated. That poverty creation is still on. That is why Khoodeelaar! is expanding the scope of the activities from being about the initial target of “the Crossrail hole..” to the other actual couriers of the same agenda as the Crossrail scam was and has been a courier of. If the affected East End community had allowed the Crossrail hole to be dug and the other Crossrail attacks mounted on the East End as part of the “Crossrail hole onslaught” on our area as had been originally plotted by Big Business as the agenda setter and by the UK DfT and other assortment of stooges that are run by appearances of democratic legitimacy they routinely obtain via the UK “Houses of Parliament” then there would have been quite literally thousands of immediate casualties whose numbers would have increased many times over the months and years that followed.
By stopping the Crossrail hole attacks on the immediate area in and around Brick Lane, we have saved the existing small businesses, the families and individuals from being economically, socially wiped out of the area
The “Brick Lane London E1 area’ thus has remained intact as far as the physical infrastructure that would have been destroyed if Crossrail hole and related attacks were nit scrapped are concerned.
In later parts of this examination and update, I shall show how the “community” aspects have been being undermined by the same sources - Big Business and their other agents and operatives
When we stopped the Crossrail hole attacks, the agenda setters for Big Business who were pushing fir the hole attacks to be mounted went on with the OTHER poverty-creation scams that are still running in the area.
In addition to those ones, the CROSSRAIL Big Business agenda activities are taking place in parts of the East End that are not in the Brick Lane London E1 area. That those other parts are being implemented by the pushers of the Crossrail hole scam and the Khoodeelaar! is not maintaining a daily campaigning opposition to those specially identifiable particular ones is not an accident.
The poverty-creating local Tower Hamlets Council and its counterpart poverty-creating agencies and operatives that are engaged and paid by the UK state [as manifest in the “local Council”, the locally based units of the UK central State and its agencies] [that in turn acts as the agency enforcing the agenda for Big business and the Military Industrial Complex] are now being increased in number and they are being aided and abetted by even more organisational support imposed by the UK State and Big Business than has been the case ever before.
Not even in the 1920s or the 1930s has there been such a disproportionately high number of poverty-creation personnel employed in the ordinary population in the East End of London as now. their deployment is being done in a subtle way. They are the 21st century version of the outreach workers, only they are not called that at all.
They are funded through enterprises and they all share the tag of being economically viable.
Which is a calculated fraud that is being perpetuated by Big Business and the UK state colluding in this. The economic and the social aspects of their agenda on the East End is to first of all subliminally or surreptitiously occupy the area and then to dislodge the ordinary population from the area.
This they are doing by the application of the scams that together make up the poverty-creation programme.
The key features of the ongoing poverty-creation programmes in the East End of London include the failing and or the negligent institutions and agencies. These institutions and agencies are collectively also known as the “welfare state”.
They are the parts of the “locally elected” Council which in effect are the “delivery units” of the “welfare state’.
Then there are the various malfunctioning entities' of the so-called “National Health Service”, the NHS.
In the VAST majority of the cases, the NHS personnel are the ones that are at fault.
Those that are in post and are kept in post at considerable salaries and wages are not accountable for the quality or the standard or the FACTS their services.
they most certainly are not accountable to the people who need the services listed and catalogued when the salaries and the costs are collected from the state in the name of these services.
this has been the case for DECADES in the East End.
There is no accountability that could and ought to make the real, tangible and sustained difference for the better for the ordinary people in the East End of London.
In the absence of that accountability, the presence of poverty-creation is taking place at an ever faster ever more solid pace. [To be continued]

Boris takes a risky step to unsettle Cameron AND [Boris hopes] stop Ken Livingstone in HIS tracks
Boris Johnson’s comments staged on the BBC Question Time last night could be just a stunt. It could be. In context, however, it is hardly a stunt. It is most likely a calculated step by Boris Johnson to strike when the rod is still red hot and can burn where it needs to: Cameron’s complacent careerist hind site!
This weekend domestically seems set now to include Boris Johnson, badly shaken by last weekend’s poll findings showing him staring at defeat by Ken Livingstone.
However strategically useful the stunt may turn out to be, the fact still remains that Boris Johnson is no Michael Moore! Contrary to his opportunistic suggestions that he was an American by birth, Boris Johnson remains quintessentially calculating and therefore a very very sheepish politico. He will not tell the truth any more than Complacent complicit Cameron or the pernicious Nick Clegg.
The truth is that Boris has failed to address the economic, social,environmental issues facing people in the East End of London. In that failure, Boris Johnson has been as irrelevant and contemptuous to the people as had been Ken Livingstone! No wonder Boris is increasingly looking like the capricious courtier of the “Muzzle-em” votes! “Muzzle ‘em” as in KEEP THE MUZZLEMS a peg or pegs below par and keep them looking up to me [Boris]. Just the way Livingstone did. And with this diabolically unfunny intervention in which Boris successfully APPEARS to almost identify with the people of the Muslim [Arabic speaking] countries. Given that this is at the height of the ‘West’s latest war on yet another defiant ‘Arab’ head of state, Boris has cultivated quite a lot of votes already!

This is about Boris Johnson and Sebastian Coe. And even before them, about Ken Livingstone.

These are the ones that have been relevant to the continuing non-recognition of the rights of so many people in London’s East End today, Tuesday.

To begin with the Games web site about Tickets proved to be another mini disaster. And Boris Johnson made matters worse by uttering even more offensive untruths in justifying the exclusion of the majority of Londoners from having the tickets. And Ken Livingstone did not make it in the main bulletins showing any opposition to Boris Johnson over the tickets.

CONTEXTUALLY diagnosing the role of "Fleet Street" in continuing poverty-creation and in adding new poverty in the East End of London.
Here we are running the BHANGEELAAR! Campaign's first comment published on the Guardian web site [this morning] in response to the GUARDIAN's online London Blog, as by-lined to Dave Hill of that news organisation. These diagnostic updates are in the context of the various policy decisions that are being taken by the UK CONDEMN regime to shore up the image of Crossrail, one of this century’s most unsustainable and scandalously wasteful “infrastructure p[projects’ that has been conjured up and forced on the UK public by the stooged regimes in UK that carries out the agenda set by secretive and unaccountable forces of Big Business.
The BHANGEELAAR! campaign in 2010 began to diagnose the role of the Guardian and in context that of the DAILY TELEGRAPH and a handful of other ‘Fleet Street’ ‘mainstream’ ‘media’ ‘organs’ in creating a new and an aggressive image of the people in Tower Hamlets. That image had been inaugurated in 2010 via Channel 4 TV and its notoriously falsifying “dispatches’ programme in the intense way that has now been evidentially associated with one of the myth-makers and propaganda stooges, Andrew Gilligan. Although the GUARDIAN’s counterpart to Gilligan’s DAILY TELEGRAPH London Blog pretends to be less biased and less belligerent as compared to Gilligan, the editorial line that Dave Hill inserts in his texts leave no doubt in the objective student's mind that Dave Hill is as politically programmed as Gilligan to undermine the community in Tower Hamlets.
[Which is where we raise the question about the “star” - word used by one of Gilligan's and Dave Hill’s alleged colleagues, Ted Jeory now employed on Richard Desmond “Express” outlets “in” “Fleet Street” - “personalities” that keep being referred to, plugged and mentioned in the two “Fleet Street” blogs about Tower Hamlets. ]

The role of the GUARDIAN, mostly in the days before it went online, in covering the East End of London has been just as misleading as that of the DAILY TELEGRAPH. So what the Gilligan 'blog' and the Dave Hill 'blog' have been doing in the current situation is in fact the continuation of the same agenda that dates back to pre-internet years.
One of the DAILY TELEGRAPH's pernicious spreader of untruths about Tower Hamlets in the last decades of the 20th century has been a Bombay-linked self-advertising 'expert' about all things "Asian" called Mihir Bose. Bose has been a recipient of the propaganda platforms via the BBC in recent years. Earlier this week, he even appeared on the BBC News Channel's slot that is dedicated to promoting the "Fleet Street" front pages.
Bose was allowed to publish a number of untruths, insults and downright fabrications and pernicious lies against the UK Bangladeshis generally and against the Seelotees in particular.
We shall in the coming week,s months and beyond examine Mihir Bose and his "crusade" in the service of the racist interest in the UK who have also used and employed less confusing and instantly identifiable racist myth-makers, inciters and propagandists like Matthew Parris.

We are commenting here to correct some of the misleading contents and insinuations.
We shall come back to deal with any other that we find appropriate in due course.
We here concentrate on Dave Hill’s “discussion” on the spelling of particular last name and we examine some other aspects of the Dave Hill’s London Blog in perpetuating the discriminatory myths about “local expertise’ by a “colleague” of Dave Hill’s.
We start by examine Mr Hill’s statement: “the only solution for Labour may be to take its leader Ed Miliband resolutely at his word and rebuild the local party from the ground up”.
What is Ed Miliband? Is he a magician or is a super human? He is neither. As for “rebuilding” of the former Labour Party, Miliband is even less. He has neither the knowledge nor the interest nor the commitment to rebuild democratic accountability anywhere. He is a machine leader of a machine bureaucracy that is banking for his ‘aim to reach the shore of power’ on the bankruptcy of the British political vessel as it is evident via the democracy-denying, democrat deficit Houses of Parliament Whatever Ed Miliband may have puffed on, he is no different on the evidence so far from any of his predecessors in that post when it comes to the fundamental purpose of the Party bureaucracy. When that purpose is ‘relaunched’ in areas like Tower Hamlets during routine ‘periods of elections’, it is as dull, dishonest and unjust and undemocratic as it ever has been. So what secret are you alluding to when you invest all; your rhetorical hopes on Ed Miliband doing the undoable? Do tell. As for us ordinary folk in Tower Hamlets, we see no evidence now and we have found none in their records of the past half century, of the former Labour Party being anything other than a machine vehicle for time-servers, petty careerists and several brazen liars. The same conclusion applies to what is now the “Tower Hamlets Lib Dems”. The several ‘names’ that you have now ‘introduced’ and or promoted about the former Labour Party in Tower Hamlets are as contaminated on their records as could be found in any of the past five decades. Our Movement has drawn attention to those during the past fifty years and demanded action against the crooked behaviour of so many time-serving place men and women in the former Labour Party that the list of the perpetrators and the allegations against them alone would take up more space than is available on your blog comment slot. The former Labour Party has persisted in failing to take action. Why? Because the entire bureaucracy has been itself corrupt. Let any of that bureaucracy's key decision-making obstructors come out and declare themselves and we shall read them the details of their perpetration with ample updater diagnostics.

The only thing that is ‘new’ about your promotion of those is your name and your blog, Dave! You are now doing what decades of “Fleet Street” media has done for the corrupotocrcay that is the former Labour Party.

About the rest of your concluding Comment, you have not qualified the phrase “a politician in Tower Hamlets”. Without qualification, that phrase is full of misleading and vacuous potential. For the sake of democratic accountability, we shall attempt a working qualification as always in context here. Perhaps by a politician in Tower Hamlets you are referring to those who seek or occupy “elected” posts. Examples include local Tower Hamlets Borough council posts or the London Assembly post/s or the posts of MPs for any of the two Parliamentary constituencies. Secondly you must be meaning the post or position seekers and the postholders in the former Labour Party that is still floated in Tower Hamlets as a bureaucratic version of its former form at the present time. Finally you must be meaning the couriers of the various sub-candidates and sub-post-seekers that make up the number that also serves as ‘the organisation’ of the former Labour Party. On the facts of the contens of your blog, you could not be meaning people in the ordinary population in Tower Hamlets. Had you meant any of us, you would have said something about the Movement that has actually been working to defend the key universal values from which the time-serving opportunists you DO recognise have benefited [personally and in terms of their own careerists factions] without a shadow of a doubt.

You also refer to the Conservative Councillors’ group ‘leader’ Peter Golds who has been doing business fort his cause by parading as a ‘Tower Hamlets politician’ although he has yet to come on the record ANYWHERE as representing the concerns and the demands of the ordinary democratically conscious people in Tower Hamlets. We have pointed this out before about Peter Golds and we do so again here, in context. We also point out that you have not expressly examined poverty of any description in your blog. Indeed, you have not even mentioned the word poverty once. In our knowledge of the ordinary lives of the overwhelming majority of ordinary people in Tower Hamlets, there are three types of poverty currently affecting the quality of life for ordinary people in Tower Hamlets. Poverty as experienced and felt and as measurable by income, earnings or none. Secondly poverty as evident in the absence of accountably, transparently democratic representation at any of the local state levels as linked to ‘electoral’ processes. The third type of poverty is in the absence of delivery of the promised or the purported standard of democracy in accordance with ordinary expectations as defined by ethics, morality or due process in most of the state and local agencies and institutions as operating in Tower Hamlets.
Although you appear reserved about Peter Golds, you perform a telling act of excusing him. You let Mr Golds off the hook by deciding to not scrutinise him on the allegations that he had INSINUATED. You say (“) Golds’ letter claimed that the Brick Lane restauranteur Shiraj Haque had, "stated to a number of local politicians that he funded the legal action" and that, "This is a reportable donation that has not been reported [to the Electoral Commission] within the [legal] time limit." (”). Who are the “number of local politicians”? We ask because we know [as defined above again] for a fact that there is no such thing as “local politicians” without links, strings and careerist negotiations and or deals. So whatever “local politicians” is supposed to refer to in relation to Peter Golds’ own promotion of his “party'-linked business would be someone [or more than one] who would be found to be already compromised by some other relevant factors vitiating any attempt to bring about an ethical and a democratically accountable atmosphere in Tower Hamlets. That would mean that you should have demonstrably queried Peter Golds’ assertion. Had you done that, you would have found ON THE EVIDENCE that a true investigative examination of his c,aims would have to reveal that Peter Golds was basing HIS bit of the allegations as much on partisan and untenably non-democratic ground as any of his implied Party political opponents would be doing given the same observed and non-democratic and or antidemocratic objective. Your reference to “the Brick Lane restauranteur Shiraj Haque” is also inaccurate and in context significantly misleading. The person you name as “Shiraj Haque” is in fact known in the community simply as Shiraj. This is true of today as it has been since the end of the 1970s when he was first listed in the public domain as an active member of the community in Tower Hamlets. One of the original validators for Shiraj getting INTO the public domain as an active member of the local community in the late 1970s was the campaign that our Movement was conducting at that time in defence of the community following the racist murder of Altab Ali on Thursday 4 May 1978. So the question that arises now , 32 years on, is this: who has been responsible for moderating or altering or amending the community-based persona of Shiraj? Has there been a legal reason why the spelling of his stated last name was or has been changed? If so, what was that legal reason? If none then why haven’t you or to be more practical your ‘local expert’ [‘colleague’] [promoted by you in the past few months as ‘the’ de facto ‘expert’ on “Tower Hamlets”] explained that change in the spelling of the stated last name cited about Shiraj? This is also important in view of the many references to Abbas Uddin “Helal” as made by you and by at least three others in or about “Fleet Street”. One of those, David Cohen, the self-described ‘rescuer of the dispossessed of London’ as promoted via the London EVENING STANDARD, invaded a democratic accountability forum that had been organised by the Spitalfields Small Business Association [SSBA] on 18 October 2010. The SSBA’s Director Kay Jordan, who sat on a chair next to where David Cohen had been sitting before he stood up to launch his invasion, wondered to our campaign within minutes of David Cohen’s invasion, what would have been the best way of stopping Cohen from violating that meeting. And what was his violating act?

Why a personal insinuation against Lutfur Rahman and as retailed on behalf of the interests that were promoting Abbas Uddin “Helal” as their chosen courier of the Blaired party band. David Cohen abused the entire local, SSBA-organised meeting, by standing up and demanding to know from Lutfur Rahman why Lutfur Rahman’s alleged supporters had been spreading an allegation about Abbas Uddin “Helal” abusing or beating his [“Abbas Uddin “Helal”:] wife. Abbas Uddin “Helal” himself was absent from the event. And there was no legal, constitutional law, ethical or democratic or electoral reason why Lutfur Rahman had to even comment on that utterance by the invader David Cohen. But Lutfur Rahman did. And ion making a comment “denying” Cohen’s invasive utterance, Lutfur Rahman confounded the Cohen-contrived confusion even further! He proceeded to deny having abused HIS wife! And a suitably timed supportive sounding woman stood up in a row behind where David Cohen was sitting [and or standing, depending on what moment of his invasion he was engaged in] in the audience and stated words to the effect that she supported her husband Lutfur Rahman totally! In his ‘response’ on the same occasion, Lutfur Rahman also said that he would sue anyone who said what Cohen was saying! This part was in fact triggered by the Lib Dems’ John Griffiths whose own utterance [to Lutfur Rahman’s mind and to observers present] represented a repetition in effect of what Cohen had done earlier in the invasive disruption of the proceedings of the SSBA-organised meeting that had been intended to offer local people a say on what the local Tower Hamlets Council should be doing to support the local small businesses and similar initiatives. Considering the fact that David Cohen VIA the London EVENING STANDARD played a promotional part in propping up the campaign propaganda and image for the Lib Dems and the Conservatives in the run up to the 06 May 2010 elections on the alleged basis that Cohen had been “helping” the “DISPOSSESSED” in London [ played as a “counter” to the then Gordon Brown-fronted regime that was, so the “DISPOSSESSED” theme suggested, causing the DISPOSSESSION to areas typified by the East End Borough of Tower Hamlets], his violation of the people who were attending the SSBA-organised meeting on 18 October 2010 showed just how irrational Cohen was, how contemptuous he was of the rights of the people in the East End and how indifferent he was to what we had to say on that day about our “local Council Cohen on that occasion dispossessed us from our democratic say! Our campaign intervened at the right time to ensure that Cohen was not able to carry with him any pretext that he could later retail for the delectation of the likes of Peter Golds in another exaggerated, untrue and untruthful attack on the invented image of our community portraying it as not only being intolerant to “journalists” but also to “free speech”! Cohen abused the kindness and generosity of the meeting and in his abuse he denied that meeting the freedom to exchange views and information about matters to do with the local Council’s financial and democratic conduct. It is clear that in your “accessible” and “sympathetic” “style”, you too are engaged in doing the same.
Why else is it that you promote Peter Golds and then fail to show why his alleged allegation to the Metropolitan Police did not go anywhere? Why is it that you refer to everything else about the various allegations about corruption over the Blaired Party's bureaucracy and its handling or mishandling of the selection etc, but fail to even recognise that there has been a fully active campaign against the very constitutional change to Tower Hamlets being lumbered with a post called executive mayor that is the persistent topic of your particular blog posts. Given that two fifths of the stated votes cast in the alleged referendum were in favour of the NO option, how can you treat 40,000 voters as if they did not record their rejection of the bid to change the Council’s particular structure? Given also the fact that Abbas Uddin “Helal” was himself a “campaigner against an elected mayor system” for MONTHS, how is it that you leave that fact out as if it was not the central feature of the evidence of active contempt for ethics and honesty that the Bliared party bureaucracy has been exhibiting at every level over the matter? You state that you had spoken to Joshua Peck but then you do not include any substance. Why mention him then? If you had asked us, we could tell you that the same Joshua Peck had appeared along with our Campaign organiser on at least four platforms at “public” meetings held across Tower Hamlets between 06 February 2010 and 06 May 2010 “speaking and uttering arguments against” a directly elected executive mayor.

We could add that without making any noticeable let alone substantiated apology to the Tower Hamlets community and the public the aforesaid Joshua Peck then began to make appearances on the Bliared Party promotional events in the Borough SUPPORTING an elected executive mayor system! He has remained silent on the fact that Bliared party candidates for Council ward votes on 06 May 2010 received far more votes than the NO question got. The significance of this is in the fact that JOSHUA PECK and other such Bliared Party candidates had been claiming that they were “campaigning against an elected mayor system” and that they were claiming that they had been ALSO asking their canvassed voters to vote NO in the allotted box on the referendum/ballot paper [held on the same day, 06 May 2010] as the general election and the London local council elections. All the evidence that we have obtained of the voters behaviour on that day in the in the run up to polling [and referendum on the mayor] day has shown that those who were actually genuinely approached about the serious flaws and the pitfalls of installing a directly elected executive mayor in fact voted NO. That raises the almost certain possibility that those, like Joshua Peck who were claiming to be campaigning for s NO vote on the referendum were doing less to secure a NO outcome than they were doing to get their personal election as councillor guaranteed. This discrepancy was deliberately created as admitted to our campaign organiser by one of Joshua Peck’s co-candidates in February-April 2010. According that candidate for a Council ward in Mile End, their priority was to get elected as councillors! Yet that ‘NO’ campaign ‘speaker at platforms’ kept on making appearances, even though she knew perfectly well that she was not campaigning for NO outcome as much as she was claiming to be when on the platform. Given the fact that that ‘No’ campaign ‘speaker’ was soon doing the “YES FOR candidate X as mayor” routine in Tower Hamlets during July-October 2010, the claims that anything any of them said at any time was based on ethics, principle or honesty is very difficult to accept. This is the real problem in the former Labour Party.
As it is with the PRESENT Tower Hamlets Council, with or without a directly elected executive mayor installed.
Contrary to the prejudiced references you make to Tower Hamlets as a whole, the behaviour of the ‘elected councillors’ and their likes is the real problem as against a truly really actually actively democracy-delivering Council. For the reasons we have shown in this detailed factually revealing comment,. the same finding applies to Lutfur Rahman as it does to his alleged detractors.

A word of update on why Khoodeelaar! has been calling the Big Business London CrossRail scheme a CRASSrail scam.

This update is caused by the behaviour of the UK Lib Dems’ Party’s Vince Cable in Bethnal Green on Wednesday 15 October 2009.

And secondly by the behaviour of Boris Johnson who coincidentally on that day confirmed his own crass role in muttering in all directions as ‘justification’ of his announcement of the week of drastically raising bus fares and tube fares in London.

We [the KHOODEELAAR! Campaign against the “CRASSrail Big Business scam agenda….”] have been using the word “Crass” in the same sense as is still contained in all the major English language dictionaries in circulation and use in the world right now.

We have added our own evidential components to upgrade the definition of the word CRASS in context.

We have said for over five years now that Crossrail is crass because, amongst other things, it was crassly conceived, it is crassly peddled and it has been crassly promoted.

In different orders, we have used the same qualifiers.

We have done so as we have reported the various manifestations of crassness, illogicality, ignorance, stupidity and sheer callousness on the parts of those who have been doing the peddling and the promoting. These activities and exhibitions are to be found across the so-called divides between the three main Parties as recognised by the numbers of Mps they have in the UK House of Commons.

The Lib Dems’ Vince Cable first:

When someone from the Lib Dems Party ‘public’ meeting [Oxford House, 15 October 2009] included a slight reference to Crossrail in a question in the overly-bureaucratically treated [in the sense of=suppressed, stifled.. and so on] ‘Question time’ following Cable’s set-piece presentation lasting well under an hour, Cable was caught out on the facts.

He admitted to the ignorance that Khoodeelaar! Campaign noted.

Cable looked at the two persons sitting alongside him on the notional podium and facing the audience in the Oxford House in a side street off the Bethnal Green Road in Tower Hamlets and asked in their direction if Crossrail ran through Tower Hamlets.

Having seen their body language saying yes it did, Cable then hurled a most banal pack of rubbish in the even more banal and thoughtless direction of the captive audience.

That was rubbish because he contradicted his previous comment on CRASSrail as published MOST PROIMINEWNTLY on 21 September 2009 and said [on 15 October 2009] that he and his Party supported Crossrail.

And then he said that IF the costs were managed acceptably then they would still support it.

Gone were the flourish that had been attached to his REJECTION of CrossRail in the news that was carried during 21 September 2009. In that REJECTION, the headlines included the one published by the London EVENING STANBDARD. It said that to Vince Cable, CrossRail was NOT A PRIORITY!

KHOODEELAAR! Campaign had noted that at the time last month [September 2009] and we published the full EVENING STANDARD piece along with an image of Cable on that occasion. It is still accessible on this very blog site.

Had the audience at the Oxford House, Derbyshire Street off Bethnal Green Road London E2 on Wednesday 15 October 2009 been made up of people who had come there to actually hear an independent, original, political speech from a genuinely influential political personality in Britain today, that piece of ignorance as uttered by Cable there would have caused a swift and disapproving reaction. Derision even. But the audience was tame and timid. It was an in-house event. Although staged at the officially non-Party political Oxford House, the meeting was intended to be and went down as a ‘reassurance exercise’ for the small number of listed members of the Party in Tower Hamlets.

Most of those present and apparently listening to him did not even notice that Vince Cable had made such a major error.

Not one member of the audience stood up or raised their hand to quiz Cable on his crass question about when CrossRail went through the borough that he was allegedly there to offer his expertise about.

Tower Hamlets, for those who are not in the UK, is also the ‘main’ area associated with the East End of London. And Bethnal Green, where Vince Cable was sitting when he exhibited his ignorance and nervousness, is in Tower Hamlets.

And Crossrail has been THE most cited word in relation to a campaign that has been going on in Tower Hamlets for the past now almost six years.

All of these are facts beyond dispute.

How?

Some of the Lib Dems party’s undeniable ‘leaders’ in Tower Hamlets who were present in that same audience, had themselves been present and speaking at demonstrations held by Khoodeelaar! AGAIUNST the fundamental impact that Crossrail would have on TOWER HAMNLETS.

More than one of those sat at the very back in the audience.

One was Janet Ludlow.

Sitting next to her was Stephanie Eaton.

Janet Ludlow actually spoke at two Khoodeelaar! Demonstrations, in February 2006 and March 2006. Both held outside the main entrance to the Mulberry Place town hall, the official address of Tower Hamlets Borough Council.

Stephanie Eaton, the 'leader' of the 4-member group of Lib Dems councillors in Tower Hamlets Council, has not spoken at a demonstration but has attended campaign events that we organised. Especially in Bethnal Green South, an area she was not familiar with until we offered her the objective and non-party-political introduction to it in the context of our campaign against the Crossrail hole agenda attacks.

And sitting somewhere in the middle of the audience at the Oxford House was Louise Alexander.

Although Ms Alexander is currently not a Lib Dems Party [or any sort of] councillor in Tower Hamlets Borough Council, she actually was the councillor who put her name to a motion tabled for debate at the Tower Hamlets Council ‘full council’ meeting held on Wednesday 1 March 2006.

That motion came closest, for a motion as put forward by any councillor in their name, to the contents of the Khoodeelaar! Campaign demands on Crossrail.

And having been a member of the so-called all-party MPs’ committee on CRASSrail dating back at least 18 months before the then UK Transport minister Alistair Darling [now in post as Gordon Brown’s successor as UK Finance minister] formally tabled the “CrossRail Bill” in the UK House of Commons [the lower camber in the two-chamber Parliament] in February 2005, Vince Cable would have been expected to know what the scam was about.

And the basic facts that he would have been reasonably expected to know about the Crossrail scam would include the one about the parts of London that the scam would affect directly and go through directly as a proposed ‘London ‘rail line’.

Yet Cable staggered non-party observers present as he paused in the middle of his ‘answer’ and asked: does Crossrail go through Tower Hamlets?

The Lib Dems’ Party’s own published records show that Cable has been involved in what the Party has advertised as the highest level ‘activities’ in the name of their Party about Crossrail.

Those activities go back to 2003 when the then MP for the same party for the Richmond area in south west London, Jenny Tonge, took part in a Lib Dems Party promotional exchange staged within the official boundaries and limits of the House of Commons.

Going on the actual contents of the Vine Vanity slot called a London debate, the question arises: is it EVER possible to examine and tell the truth about the evidence in a ‘debate’ conducted on the BBC?

And when was the last time that the BBC took any initiative of universally understood objective journalism to tell the people the truth about wasteful publicly funded agencies, scams, and decisions?

Why hasn’t the BBC told the truth that it is a lie to cite £Billions and claim the sums as “economic benefit” when the Crossrail scam is still a fantasy and there is no factual basis for linking ANY sum as any benefit arising from it?

Britain is among those countries needing to tighten their fiscal policies in order to stem the growth of ballooning debts, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The organisation warned that the UK's debt in relation to its GDP could rise to 90.6pc by the end of this parliament, more than doubling the levels of 2007 before the financial crisis.
"Fiscal policy will need to react more strongly to debt than past behaviour would suggest, and governments will need to engage in reforms that place debt on a sustainable footing," the IMF said.
The Fund's report would appear to support the government's aggressive stance on reducing spending.
The report continued: "In the last three and a half decades, public debt has been the shock absorber in advanced economies - going up in bad times and not coming down in good times."
Britain is in a better position than other countries in regards to debt, particularly those in Southern Europe and Japan, but remains "constrained in their degree of fiscal maneuver".
The IMF concluded: "Timely policy measures are needed to increase the probability that public debt will remain on a sustainable path and convince markets that fiscal policy is not proceeding on a 'business as usual' basis."
The report comes as the coalition spending review, to take place in October, begins to loom large on the political horizon.
David Cameron's government will likely use reports such as these as support for their arguments on spending cuts and debt reduction, in what is likely to be a politically contentious period as the full scale of George Osborne's economic plans come to light.
Labour, although in the midst of a leadership election, has regularly attacked the speed and scale of government spending cuts as unnecessary.

Crossrail-hole-Minister Alistair Darling's ‘plea’ to Khoodeelaar!

UK Transport Secretary Alistair Darling MP has had his Department for Transport [DfT] write to the Khoodeelaar! Campaign in the East End of London against the Crassrail hole Bill as part of a strategy to salvage the careers of the controlling Blairite Tower Hamlets Council. Khoodeelaar! held another powerful demonstration against that Council on Wednesday 1 March 2006.

The 1 March 2006 Khoodeelaar! No to Crossrail hole Council demo was supported by RESPECT coalition MP George Galloway and by the main Opposition on Tower Hamlets Council, the Liberal Democrats. At the Council meeting that followed the same evening, Lib Dem councillor Louise Alexander sought to have Tower Hamlets show recognition to the community and to identify with the community in opposing the Crassrail hole plan attacks Bill.

The controlling clique failed to recognize the momentous importance of the motion and they even jeered at Councillor Alexander part of the time that she was presenting her arguments in support of the motion.

The only other non-Lib Dem councillor who supporter Louise Alexander was the RESPECT councillor Oliur Rahman

In his speech at the Khoodeelaar! demonstration earlier in the evening, Oliur Rahman described the controlling clique on Tower Hamlets Council as crooks and vowed to do everything he and his colleagues could do to remove them from office at the scheduled 4 May 2006 council elections.

UK Transport [Crossrail hole-Bill] Minister Alistair Darling, MP, makes another lame plea to Khoodeelaar! on behalf of Tower Hamlets Council !

Alistair Darling’s Department for Transport ahs sent a letter by email on Friday 3 March 2006 to Khoodeelaar organiser Muhammad Haque.

Crossrail-hole-Bill promoter Alistair Darling MP has not yet cottoned on to the fact that the East End community opposition to our area being devastated is not a temporary affair.

This opposition will continue and will grow. The only solution to this is for Darling to drop the whole Crossrail hole plot. To scarp the Crossrail hole Bill and to start again. Without a hole against our community. Without a hole in our community.

Nor has Alistair Darling understood the fact that he cannot get away with breaking the very laws on whose existence in the UK statute book he relies for his legitimacy as a bona fide member of a bona fide ‘democratic’ Government with claims to expect the community to abide by decisions that that Government makes.

Darling had his Department for Transport [DfT] write to Khoodeelaar! Organiser Muhammad Haque in February 2006.

In that communication the DfT made the plea that the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Council had been in touch with the DfT and that the DfT was listening to the Council over concerns on the Crossrail hole problems.

That communication was intended to ‘reassure’ the Khoodeelaar! Campaign organisation that Tower Hamlets Council was ‘indeed’ representing the concerns and the opposition of the local community against the Crossrail hole.

There cannot be any ‘reassurance’ on that at all unless there is incontrovertible, categorical and unconditional resolution by the full Council saying No to Crossrail hole attacks on the East End.

And that evidence could have been produced by the ruling clique on Tower Hamlets Council on Wednesday 1 March 2006.

The Council ignored the opportunity.

The ruling clique on Tower Hamlets Council squandered that opportunity.

The ruling clique on Tower Hamlets Council showed contempt to that opportunity.

Tower Hamlets Council ‘leadership’ of Michael Keith is so contemptuous of the people in the Borough that it fabricated a bureaucratic scenario which it then used to waste as long as three hours of vital council meeting time.

They did that to defuse the power of the argument typified in the motion formally put to the council by [Lib Dem] councillor Louise Alexander asking for the Council to show that it had woken up to the dangers posed by the Crossrail hole to the East End community.

That Alistair Darling ploy will not work because there is nothing in the hundreds of A4 pages of ‘statements’ ‘positions’ and ‘explanations’ so far published about the Crossrail plan by or in the name of or at the behest of the controlling clique on the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Council which shows any sign that Tower Hamlets Council is being ‘led’ or ‘controlled’ by tellers of the truth.

Those who have been in control of the Tower Hamlets Council do not tell the truth and they do not recognise the truth when we in the community tell it.

And nothing has been more staggering as a confirmation of the Tower Hamlets Council’s illegitimate but actual ‘leadership’s inability to tell the truth than their behaviour on Crossrail hole over the past three years.

Tower Hamlets Council’s ‘controlling clique’ has lied to the community in the past three years and falsely claimed that the Crossrail hole plan would ‘bring benefits’ to the community.

How could the Crossrail hole plan bring ‘benefits’ unless the controlling clique had taken total leave of its senses!

Digging a hole could also trigger off all kinds of unforeseeable but possible environmental disasters linked with remains of devises that might be lying buried there from the 1940s war time bombing in the East End.

Digging a hole in the Woodseer street is no different at all from digging a hole in the Hanbury Street or in the Princelet street.

Digging a hole entails a thousand other assaults that will be made on the lives of thousands of people in the East End.

For no reason.

There is no economic reason for doing that.

There is no social reason for doing that.

There is no environmental reason for doing that.

There is no justification whatever for doing or wanting to do any of the Crossrail-hole things in any part of the London borough of Tower Hamlets.

So why are the Tower Hamlets Council so adamant that they openly lie to the community?

Alistair Darling’s DfT letter to Muhammad Haque on Friday 3 March 2006 repeats essentially the same line that the DfT has been in receipt of information from the London borough of Tower Hamlets Council.

But nothing about the allegations that Khoodeelaar! had been making against the lying clique on Tower Hamlets Council and including the serious allegation supported by documentary evidence that that clique had abused its control over the constitutional and the elected entity of Tower Hamlets Council.

Alistair Darling’s DfT letter to Khoodeelaar on Friday 3 March 2006 does not deal with the Khoodeelaar! demand for action by the DfT against the liars over the Crossrail hole plan.

The DfT [constitutionally responsible MP is Alistair Darling] letter to Khoodeelaar contains further pretence of its ignorance of the Khoodeelaar representations of the past 26 months about the lying clique in control of the Council in their bid to promote the agenda of the Crossrail promoting vested interests.

The key facts contained in the past 26 months of the Khoodeelaar representations to both the DfT and to the offices of the UK Prime Minister and the UK Finance Minister [Chancellor of the Exchequer] have been about the role of the identified members of the controlling clique on Tower Hamlets Council.

The key role and the key culpable conduct – misconduct - by those identified members of that clique on Tower Hamlets Council has been the brazen lies that the clique have told to local people in the Brick Lane London E1 area.

They lied in that they never told the community that a Crossrail hole plan was even being discussed by the Council for YEARS.

They lied when the community got to know about that and the Khoodeelaar! movement against the hole plan began to take form in January 2004.

They lied when they then said that they did not know what the plan was.

They lied when they said that the campaign against the hole was doing nothing but spreading unnecessary scares

They lied when they then claimed that the Khoodeelaar! Campaign against the Crossrail hole was not dealing with ‘regeneration’ ‘benefits’ that the Crossrail hole would bring to the Brick Lane London E1 area..

They lied when they stayed silent to questions that khoodeelaar! put to them.

They lied when they then contrived with the employees of the Tower Hamlets Council including Christine Gilbert the Council’s chief Executive, to arrange to block emails being sent from the campaign against the Crossrail hole.

Timely stance by community against Crossrail hole Council

One of the speakers at the Khoodeelaar Demonstration against the Crossrail at the Mulberry Place, Town hall, and Tower Hamlets Council on Wednesday was Carole Swords.

She spoke as an activist who has only very recently joined the campaign against the Council.

Her fresh perspective is the sort of resource that will serve the community well in the future.

She spoke with passion against the Council’s behaviour.

Carole has been active in Bow West ward.

The bow west campaigners against the stock transfer of tower hamlets council housing have expressed solidarity with the Khoodeelaar! Campaign against Crossrail hole. This is a timely move in defence of the community and bears signs that the best way to defend the people ion tower hamlets against the market agents now on tower hamlets council is by people working in concert and with a clear objective.

We need to make this the normal practice in every ward in Tower Hamlets

For the 3,000 passengers sweltering in the tunnel at Oxford Circus on Monday, it was just another rush-hour delay on the Victoria line. For the future of the Tube, it was more frustrating.

The broken-down train was one of the 10 spanking new, fully automatic, £10 million machines central to the Victoria line's £900 million upgrade.
Already they have been tested on the line for a year. Still they suffer computer software problems. And this is just the leading edge of the dramatic upgrades planned for almost the whole network.
New kit always causes problems: trains introduced on the Northern line in 1996 broke down for years, justifying the “misery line” nickname. The Victoria line upgrades are on schedule and on budget. But today Tube users are facing the reality of state-of-the art trains and signalling systems being tested live on the world's oldest underground railway system.
Combined with the threat of savage Government cuts, such challenges suggest we may have much longer to wait for the new Tube we were promised in 2003, when the first of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) deals for the network was signed and control of London Underground passed to the Mayor.
That we need a new Tube is beyond doubt. Never mind the delays and crumbling stations suffered by passengers: go behind the scenes and it's clear that this is a network in desperate need of investment.
At the Earl's Court control room on the District line, most of the technology is stuck in 1961, when it was built. “I first came here in 1977,” jokes Howard Collins, LU's chief operating officer, “and you still can't stick anything into the wall because of the asbestos.”
I'm down in the interlocking machine room, the guts of the District line's signaling system — effectively the brain of the line. The technology is mechanical levers powered by air pressure, directed by hole-punch reels driven by Hewlett Packard HP1000s, a 1960s computer system discontinued a decade ago. It looks like the traffic-control computer sabotaged in The Italian Job (1969) — only scruffier and with household fans rigged up to keep the heat down.
Transport Commissioner Peter Hendy is more pithy: “The signaling is all clapped out.”
This is the heart of the problem, and it's a big job — roughly like rewiring your whole house, only without stopping anything running. On Monday the Metropolitan line will get the first of the “sub-surface” lines' 191 new trains, complete with air conditioning. But as Collins admits: “It's like taking the poshest car imaginable and then driving it down a farm track.” Without new signalling and track, the new trains will make little difference to journey times.
The PPP, a mind-bendingly complex 30-year deal contracting out maintenance and upgrading, was supposed to fix all this. The plan was to increase the Tube's capacity to serve a bigger, more prosperous London, as well as making the Tube more pleasant to use. Instead of about 24 trains an hour at peak times, there would be nearer 36.
You could be forgiven if you hadn't noticed — despite nearly £12 billion being spent since 2003. Many of the improvements have been peripheral — new track on outlying sections, spruced-up stations — or else add-ons such as the Oyster system.
The major work fell rapidly behind and costs ballooned. The two consortia of engineering contractors involved, Tube Lines and Metronet, argued bitterly with Transport for London.
Metronet collapsed in May 2007 under a mountain of debt and uncontrolled costs. It had been responsible for the Victoria, Bakerloo, Waterloo and City and Central and “sub-surface” lines (the earliest, shallow Underground lines — Circle, District, Hammersmith and City, Metropolitan and East London). In May 2008, it was transferred to TfL.
Then last year the other contractor, Tube Lines, responsible for the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines, started to wobble, after admitting that the Jubilee line upgrade was far behind schedule.
A major stand-off developed with TfL over the costs of the next stage of the work, starting next year — although the PPP's arbiter conceded that the cost was £400 million more than TfL claimed. Faced with collapse, Tube Lines was bought out for £310 million by TfL last month.
Imperial College's Professor Stephen Glaister, a former board member of TfL and a director of Tube Lines, blames Gordon Brown, who forced the PPP model on Mayor Ken Livingstone. “Brown thought PPP was a cost-reducing way of getting the work done,” recalls Glaister. “That simply was not realistic.”
A TfL report last week warned of serious new delays to both the Jubilee and Northern lines (see box). One Jubilee line driver told me: “There's a general lack of confidence among drivers. When we test it at weekends, we'll have a good afternoon when it runs fine and then the system falls over and we have hours of delays.”
The Mayor has promised that line closures on the Jubilee and Northern lines will be kept to a minimum — but that will prolong the job.
Meanwhile, there are serious doubts whether the lines that were always further along in the schedule — such as the Piccadilly and Bakerloo — will ever now get their upgrade.
Then there's the money. It was already questionable whether TfL could afford the job.
Glaister warns: “There is a big black hole and TfL are either going to have to find the money elsewhere or slow down the whole programme.”
And there is the prospect of the Department for Transport passing on cuts of up to 40 per cent.
There is also competition for funds from separate Crossrail projects. The LSE's Tony Travers is pessimistic: “The Treasury just don't trust London Underground any more.”
Hendy concedes that “in extremis” a 40 per cent cut in funding would mean not being able to upgrade signalling on the sub-surface lines. He warns: “The risk then is that the system falls over more and more.” Glaister adds: “I'm really concerned that the Northern line is going to become dreadfully unreliable.”
Business leaders are clear, though: without a revamped Tube, London will start to grind to a halt. Passenger numbers have risen steadily since the mid-1980s: there are now 3.5 million journeys each weekday and sometimes more than four million. London's projected future growth will push it past breaking point.
Peter Hendy is defiant: “The Mayor will go down fighting for this.”
Prepare for a battle royal between Boris Johnson and the Chancellor over the future of the rails beneath our feet.
Victoria Line
Still scheduled for completion in spring 2012. A new signalling system is ready to go live, while most of the work on renewing track and ventilation systems is complete. The main hold-up now is the wait for the rest of the 47 new trains, arriving at a rate of about one a fortnight from engineers Bombardier.
Jubilee Line
Originally contracted to Tube Lines, the main part of the upgrade to the Jubilee line is to its signalling system, designed by French electronics group Thales. Originally scheduled for completion in December 2009, it fell badly behind: Tube Lines underestimated the difficulty of developing the system software. Extra weekend closures — 146 to date, which have led to all sorts of problems for the O2 arena at Greenwich, for example — have still not anywhere near ironed out the bugs in the system. A recent TfL report says that it is unlikely to be complete before February 2011.
Circle, District, Hammersmith and City and Metropolitan Lines
These sub-surface lines are the focus for the next major tranche of investment, £4.5 billion over seven years. From next week, new trains will start to run here, starting with the Metropolitan line. By 2015 all these lines will have the new trains (cost: £1.5 billion) although some platforms will need lengthening to accommodate them. Work on new signalling will begin next year. Expected completion of the whole upgrade: 2017.
Northern Line
New signalling for the Northern line was originally contracted to Tube Lines and scheduled for completion by December 2011. By this month, work was supposed to be 72 per cent complete — in fact, only 10-12 per cent has been done. A report for TfL this month by contractors Serco notes that “slippage experienced to date suggests that if this programme were to proceed then it is likely that the upgrade would not be complete until late 2013” and that “even this estimate may be optimistic”.
Piccadilly Line
New trains and signalling were originally scheduled for completion by 2014. Future now very uncertain: TfL are cagey about the timetable and even 2017 is now seen as optimistic by insiders. By then its existing trains will be 40 years old.
Bakerloo Line
The last line to be upgraded: new trains and signalling originally scheduled for 2020. When it gets done is now anyone's guess.

I love this ironic comment from Tony Travers: “The Treasury just don't trust London Underground any more.”

The Treasury's record on transport over the years is unbelievably bad.

The disastrous PPP was cooked up in the Treasury. But their greatest transport crime was the crazy industry structure forced on the railway industry at privatisation, completely against the advice of all the experts who knew anything about railways. This almost lead to the complete collapse of the network in 2000, and has resulted in a tripling in the subsidy without anything like a tripling in the quality. Our railway is now very expensive by European standards, but nothing like European quality. Have we ever has an apology from Sir Steve Robson, former deputy permanent secretary to the Treasury, who Christian Wolmar says "pushed through the structure of rail privatisation...that is at root of so many of the railway’s problems"?

There are many other examples.

More generally, the Treasury (and the ex-treasury hacks who dominate the upper reaches of the DfT) has an obsession with competition, which just doesn't work with public transport. See for example the book by Paul Mees.

London desperately devolved control over tax and spending. We need to wrest control of the purse strings from the dead hand of the Treasury, and allocate the money according to local priorities, and not according to Treasury prejudices and dubious cost/benefit models.

We told you so! For coming on to seven years now! All evidential criteria, auditing criteria, ethical criteria have been suspended when it came to the examination of CRASSrail. All allegedly party political differences have been suspended by the three main numerically [so far] largest parties in the UK parliament and outside through their agencies, employees and canvassers. So we find that when the NHS, the schools, the colleges, the rest of the transport funding are being cut, when the over the top-misrepresented welfare programme is being subjected to further misrepresentation and curtailment, when even the UK's over the top glorious sub-imperialistic programmes are being treated with increasing scepticism, the one name, the one tile that is being fiercely shielded by cult-like dedication by agents of all three parties is CRASSrail! The number of six-figure salaries at Crossrail has almost trebled in a year and its chief executive has become the biggest earner within the Transport for London empire.

Rob Holden took home £554,495 in pay and benefits, more than £160,000 above the pay package received by TfL commissioner Peter Hendy, who has refused to take his £132,409 bonus.

The number of staff earning £100,000 or more at Crossrail — the long-delayed £15.9 billion project that is not due to be completed for seven years — has risen from eight to 23.

Crossrail, a subsidiary of TfL, is facing an anxious wait to see if it is targeted as the Government imposes major cuts across Whitehall.

Before the election, Chancellor George Osborne refused to safeguard it from cuts, saying he wanted to have a close look at the books.

The Transport Department is contributing £5.1 billion to the project and Network Railis paying £2.3 billion, while the Mayor and TfL are providing £7.7 billion, of which £3.5 billion comes from an extra levy on business rates.

Mr Holden joined Crossrail in April last year after successfully overseeing the Channel Tunnel Rail Link to St Pancras. Neither he nor Crossrail chairman Terry Morgan, who earned £209,598, received a bonus.

A Crossrail spokesman said the organisation, which is also funded by the City of London Corporation, BAA and the Canary Wharf Group, had to pay market rates for the best staff.

He said: “The scale of the operation has gone from birth through adolescence and into the state of adulthood. To do that, and to meet the very challenging targets that Crossrail has been set, we have got to find the best resources available in terms of infrastructure and leadership. We are competing directly with the private sector for project management expertise. If we don't compete and don't get the resources we need, the project won't be completed on time and to budget.”

TfL appoints only one member of Crossrail's independent board and does not control its salary structure, except the pay of the chairman. Mr Hendy declined to comment directly on Mr Holden's earnings but said it was right the public sector directly employed the best available people rather than having to rely on consultants.

Mr Hendy said: “It's probably the biggest construction project in the world, certainly in Europe, and it ought not to be a surprise that we have got to recruit people with sufficient calibre... and the experience and clout to manage it.

“If we didn't have these people, the likelihood is that we would be having consultants — whose salaries you wouldn't see.” The figures emerge in TfL's annual accounts for the financial year 2009/10, which detail in full for the first time the names, positions and earnings of those on £150,000 or more.

A DfT spokesman said: “Crossrail Limited is a 100 per cent subsidiary of the Transport for London Group. As such the salary and bonuses paid to the executive and non-executive directors are a matter for the Mayor.”

Crossrail will run from Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east, linking Oxford Street, the City and Canary Wharf via twin underground tunnels through central London. It is intended to boost rail capacity by 10 per cent and ease crowding on the Central line.

Terry, the wages paid to some of the people working on it may be absurd, (as may the cost of the project and length of time it's taking) but why is the line itself a white elephant?

It's a hugely necessary increase and improvement to the tube's infrastructure.

I suspect that the amount they've spent farting about on this project, so far, could have paid for and built one or two tube lines by now.
The Piccadilly, Bakerloo and Northern line middle sections were all built within about 5 years. Without any huge machines, or modern technology.
Progress eh?

Mr Hendy needs to explain why they are paying senior management six figure salaries AND employing so many consultants to manage the project!

Two delivery partner (management) contracts were awarded by TfL during the recession for £500m when all those consultants had no other work in the UK and could have been employed directly for one third of the cost to we taxpayers.

With PPP falures and over spending on projects like CrossRail, TfL are in danger of rivaling some of the banks in terms of putting taxpayers money at risk.

That the UK Lib Dems party was in fact a misleading one. So misleading, in fact, that its current 'leader' is exposed as a right-winger of dire proportions. Nick Clegg was alwasys a right winger. Like nearly everyone in Sheffield I am appalled at the government's announcement that it will not honour the £80m loan promised to Sheffield Forgemasters. This is nothing to do with money being tight.

Give my regards to Bond Street

Bond Street is in the news today, with retailers angry because plans for a Crossrail station there are in jeopardy. It would be the ultimate insult for retailers to be asked to fund the hugely expensive new line through an additional business rates levy, only for it not to serve the retail heart of the West End.

However, it’s not surprising that the scheme is being looked at again. Last week’s cuts - including government funding for the Sheffield Retail Quarter development - showed that the coalition is going to be ruthless when it comes to wielding the axe. More of which we’re likely to see in tomorrow’s budget, I suspect.

I was on Bond Street at the end of last week to have a look round the revamped Fenwick store. It seems to have been being rebuilt for decades, and isn’t entirely finished, but the results are pleasing and all that work has created about 20% more space, which you can really feel when you’re in the store. It definitely gives the product space to shine.

With the exception of the basement, which houses menswear and gifts, the whole store has been made over and while the results of all the work aren’t particularly radical, in most of the store at least, they reinforce Fenwick as a destination store and there are some very interesting touches, particularly when it comes to lighting. There are also a lot of very unusual chairs, offering varying degrees of comfort, dotted around.

While the rest of the store remains quite traditional in its look, the big surprise is the young fashion top floor, with exposed pipework, which looks really quite funky and is definitely a bold departure for Fenwick. There were quite a few mothers shopping with grown up daughters which - rightly or wrongly - I always perceive as Fenwick’s customer profile. A new restaurant by renowned Evening Standard food critic Fay Maschler isn’t finished yet but when it is I’m sure will be a massive help in driving footfall to the store.

Fenwick is an interesting beast, with the owning family prefering to stay out of the limelight and each of the stores having a very distinct personality and its own buyers. The Bond Street revamp has definitely taken the store on, and reinforced its point of difference as a calm but understatedly stylish oasis compared to its rival West End department stores.

If Osborne wants to be trusted then he must face the truth himself and scrap Crossrail .

Why Crossrail? Because it is crass.

It was crassly conceived, crassly promoted, crassly ‘justified’.

It is uneconomic.

It is unwanted.

It is NOT the appropriate answer to the transport priorities and needs in London.

The only elements that have ever wanted Crossrail are the big business elements.

They stand to gain the larger share of the contract findings, mainly shouldered by the UK public.

There is no evidence whatever to justify the scripted, Big Business hype that successive holders of the post at the UK DAFT DfT now held by Phillip Hammond have parroted at routine intervals appearing to ‘add to’ the fabricated scenario of ‘substance’ to Crossrail. They have been exposed as making false, untrue and untruthful statements. On each and every citable occasion.

George Osborne must also bear in mind that there has been NO evidence that can be independently verified of any part of the UK population showing any interest for the public £ Billions to be given to Big Business in the name of Crossrail.

The only elements that HAVE done so have been [and are] the touts and lobbyists for Big Business. Those touts have included a significant number of MPs [both currently in the UK parliament and several retired!] who have vied with their counterparts in the UK House of PEERS to peddle the lies for Big Business Crossrail and they have competed to suppress all relevant evidence from the UK Public.

They have done so at the ‘Select Committees’ in both formal Houses of UK Parliament.

No additional proof is needed to show that Crossrail is something that cannot be publicly evidentially accountably justified!

No wonder that the touts placed in positions of control at the two UK Houses around the then ‘Crossrail Bill’ were perniciously engaged in suppressing the questions, the queries and the demands for answers that hundreds of objectors put to them during 2006-2008 concerning the conception, the design, the costs and the economic relevance of the Crossrail scam!

No wonder that even the VERY CLEARLY Right-wing FORBES publishing empire in the USA reported that the UK Government’s own funded ‘expert’ on the subject of railways, Rod Eddington, appointed to carry out an investigation by G Osborne’s predecessor in post Gordon Brown, had NOT endorsed Crossrail.

As did the Channel 4 TV news programme on 5 October 2007. As have subsequently published reports by the London Times newspaper and the ECONOMIST magazine.

Not to refer again to Simon Jenkins whose comment published by the London EVENING STANDARD 14 months ago was headlined: “Crossrail will eat money. Kill it, Boris and save the bankrupt Tube instead.”

That advice is as valid today as it was all that time ago when WE HAD told Gordon Brown in February 2004 to stop Crossrail..

That advice applies today to G Osborne who should note Harriet Harman’s comments made in the UK House of Commons only in the past 10 minutes when she pointed to the contradictions that were appearing all over the practices and utterances of David Cameron’s [CONDEM COLLUSION].

This is seen most clearly in the robotically delivered utterances ‘for Crossrail’ as mouthed by Boris Johnson. Just in the same way that they are still being delivered by the predecessor robot Ken Livingstone. For the past six years and five months, Khoodeelaar! has collected evidence and published the findings as based on the originally gathered evidence showing that CrossRail is not rationally backable. And it is not.

As was seen during the formal period when the ‘CrossRail Bill’ was rubber stamped [into the notional statute book] through the two Houses of the UK Parliament, the evidence that showed Crossrail to be less important than the priority needs of the current tube and related rail networks in the London region was prevented from being put to MPs and peers.

Equally, evidence of design flaws seriously adversely affecting the environment and the communities in London was prevented from being put to the MPs and the Peers. Evidence of economic calculations and planning about CrossRail showing that the scheme was a deeply flawed one, was also prevented from being put to the MPs and the Peers. The MPs and the Peers thus became stooges.

It follows that the 'Crossrail Bill' was a sham. As is the CrossRail project. And even the then Opposition Con Party backed the promotion of the Sham scheme. Thus it is a scam. Not a scheme. Unless they can show evidence that proves that CrossRail will produce overwhelming economic benefits to the ordinary people, the scam should be scrapped forthwith and the losses should be cut.

Hammond orders review of new trains plans

Philip Hammond: NAO report may have reinforced his doubts

THE transport secretary has ordered a comprehensive review of rolling stock orders, casting fresh doubt on plans for Thameslink and even Crossrail.

At the same time, the National Audit Office has published a report which is critical of the soaring cost of new trains.

Philip Hammond is already making cuts of £683 million in the Department for Transport budget in the current year, as part of general departmental economies ordered by the Chancellor which are intended to save a total of £6.2 billion.

But the DfT share of these economies is not nearly enough to account for rolling stock orders, which include the vehicles outstanding under the High Level Output Specification (or HLOS) as well as the fleets for Thameslink and later Crossrail. The total cost of these orders would have been at least £4 billion, with new rail vehicles now typically costing at least £1.5 million each.

The ambitious proposals for a next-generation intercity fleet had already been put on hold by the previous Labour government, and the chances of these plans being revived are now looking very slim.

Mr Hammond said Labour's plan for more trains would now be 'rigorously reassessed', to see if they still offered value for money for taxpayers.

"Since that announcement was made in 2007 the growth in passenger numbers has not materialised and costs have soared, leaving Labour's plans in tatters," he explained.

The transport secretary's doubts appear to have been reinforced by today's report from the National Audit Office, 'Increasing passenger rail capacity', which says that the predicted growth in passenger numbers has not materialised because of the economic downturn.

Mr Hammond added that ""significantly fewer new trains will be delivered for the money committed than were promised to passengers".

Livingstone has uttered this assertion many times in the past.

We have reason today to put the same challenge to Ken Livingstone that we have put to him ion this over the past six years and five months: where is the evidence to support your claim for Big Business?

We warn Livingstone on the obligation under morality, ethics and constitutionality.

We are asserting that Hammond’s later ‘commitment to it’ [as gleefully reported by the Crossrail lobby fronted by the London EVENING STANDARD] is proof of the stooging that is already taking place ‘within Govt’ under the unmistakable influence of the Big Business Military industrial complex lobby bent on looting the UK public of £Billions through contracts that are flaunted as ‘plausible sounding’ banner of ‘big infrastructure projects’.

That banner was one of the stupidest and the most dishonest ones that were deployed by the gravely ill advised and outdated entrance of Gordon Brown into the arena of reviving the mythological economic policy linked with the over-mythologised, over-hyped ‘doctrine’ as attributed to John Maynard Keynes.

Who is Phillip Hammond?

Indeed!

He is [as has been for the past 3-4 days only after the Lib Dem Con party ‘deal’ began to appear to take shape in terms of UK Govt departments being allocated ‘ministers’] the holder of the post of “Secretary of State” [that is a cabinet one] for Transport at the UK’s Daft DfT!

Khoodeelaar! describes [and has described] the UK Department for Transport as “the UK daft DfT” manly because of the daft policies that have been pursed or promoted by that Department. In our view and on the evidence, Crossrail is a most typical example of the daftness of the DfT.

We shall update on our diagnosis of the internal mis-workings and misuses and abuses of the UK DAFT DfT on a separate occasion. We shall show again with relevant contextual and evidential illustrations just how wasteful, unaccountable and anti-democratic the ‘civil service’ [!!!!!!!!!!] component as we found it installed in the DfT during six years of ‘contact’ that we had to maintain purely for reasons of evidence and constitutionality.

Why didn’t Phillip Hammond refer to CrossRail in that programme?

Was he unsure about the effect it would have in terms of the votes that were yet to be cast a week later?

Was he in doubt about the viability of Crossrail?

Just as Justine Greening had been, just as Theresa Villiers had been?

It is inconceivable that either Justine Greening or Theresa Villiers would have come out with those statements of reservation about CrossRail had there been no evidence which the then ‘shadow Conservative cabinet’ possessed about CrossRail justifying the reservations on the scam.

It is also significant that neither Phillip Hammond nor George Osborne gave any remotely mentionable endorsement to the CrossRail scam at any time in the past three years.

Neither Osborne nor Cameron stated anything at any time in the one month run up to the Election 2010 showing any sign of evidentially justifiable confidence in the Big Business agenda Crossrail scam.

So what is the evidence on which Phillip Hammond has uttered his version of the lie that had been uttered before him by the carious occupants at the daft UK DfT?

What would a Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition mean for transport?

As we speak David Cameron and Nick Clegg trying to work out whether they can form a coalition government. Transport is not the key to this agreement, but transport policy will be influenced by its outcome. So what would a Tory-Lib Dem "coalition for change" mean for transport?

A glance at the manifestos of the two parties reveals plenty of common ground. Both are committed to high speed rail. Both want longer rail franchises with less micro-management from government. Both want Network Rail to be made more accountable. Both support light rail. And both oppose new runways at Heathrow and Stansted.

There are, however, two major areas of disagreement, however. They are buses and road pricing.

The Lib Dems want to reverse the deregulation of buses outside of London that was brought in by the Tories in the 1980s. They want to use Labour's 2008 Local Transport Act to give local authorities new powers to regulate buses, with Quality Contracts. Tory policy is the complete opposite. They are firmly opposed to reregulation and want to promote partnership working between local authorities and bus operators.

Tory transport spokesman Stephen Hammond believes that Quality Contracts will "drive a wedge between operators and councils, and discourage investment and innovation".

Speaking to New Transit last month, Lib Dem transport spokesman Norman Baker said: "The Tories seem more interested in bus companies than in bus passengers."

Road pricing is the other area of potential conflict. The Lib Dem manifesto contains a pledge to introduce a nationwide road pricing scheme, but the Tories say this is unwanted, unnecessary, and an IT disaster waiting to happen.

But could common ground emerge in this area? During the election campaign, Tory leader David Cameron said his party would consider polls for new roads, and refused to rule out extending them to existing ones.

The big question is where would the axe fall? Whoever forms the next government will have to make savage cuts in public expenditure. What parts of the transport budget would a Tory-Lib Dem coalition cut?

Crossrail could be the most high profile casualty. Both parties support the £16bn project but neither has labelled it "untouchable".

The Tories have said that all major projects will need to be reviewed, and Crossrail is no exception.

Speaking in May 2009, Tory Treasury spokesman Philip Hammond said: "We believe that Crossrail is a good project. It fits very well with our agenda of improving rail infrastructure.

"But do the government have no conception of the scale of the hole that they have dug? Every single programme and project will have to be reassessed and re-evaluated.

Last September, Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesman Vince Cable warned that Crossrail was unlikely to be a "key priority". Cable, the Twickenham MP, suggested that Crossrail may have to rely less on public funding.

"I doubt that in our list of key spending priorities at the next general election, we are going to be listing X-billion pounds of taxpayers' cash to invest in Crossrail," he said. "They have got to try and find a funding mechanism that isn't so dependent on the public sector."

Cable suggested that a whole series of small projects might give a better return than Crossrail.

"Certainly in south-west London, we have these arguments about using Waterloo International [the former Eurostar platforms]. It involves very little money, it's just sitting there. It's an absolute scandal," he said.

"We are not arguing for stopping the project but equally we are not suggesting that we should be finding lots more public money for it. We just can't afford it in the current environment."

The power of TV, not the internet, has defined this election

The election campaign took a decisive twist this week – and it was all live on TV, as Political Editor Tomos Livingstone reports

IT WAS supposed to be the internet election, but the past seven days have proved conclusively that television still has the muscle to decisively affect the course of the campaign.

There will be those in the Labour party cursing the decision to go ahead with the televised leaders’ debate; they won’t be cursing as hard as Gordon Brown was when he realised he was still wearing a broadcaster’s mike after his encounter with voter Gillian Duffy.

Mr Brown used to work in TV before embarking on his long career in politics, so it’s something of an irony his unsuitability for the medium has made it all but impossible for him to recover lost political ground.

It may well have irritated him all the more to see an old rival re-appear last night who knows a thing or two about looking good on the small screen.

The week began with Labour and the Conservatives starting to put the squeeze on Nick Clegg, and it ended with a series of polls whose consistency suggests an electorate that has made up its mind.

Mrs Duffy, meanwhile, appears to have a signed a newspaper deal to tell her side of the extraordinary story of her encounter with the Prime Minister, while Tony Blair – for it was he – turned on the charm in some marginal seats.

“Once you get into the final days, I think people will really focus their minds on who has the best answers for the future, who has got the energy, the drive, to take the country forward, who has got the answers to the questions the future is posing,” said Mr Blair.

That’s exactly what Mr Brown has been trying to say. And after a combative TV leaders’ debate on Thursday, pollsters revealed that voters were indeed making up their minds – putting the Prime Minister in third place behind David Cameron and Nick Clegg.

No-one mentioned Mrs Duffy during the debate, although Mr Brown briefly referred to “not always getting it right” in his opening remarks. But she had already been written into political history by that point.

The widow from Rochdale had only left her home to buy a loaf of bread, and was surprised to see a large number of police officers milling around nearby.

It wasn’t, as she suspected, a car accident, but there can’t be a much better metaphor for what happened next.

Having been introduced, Mrs Duffy spoke to Mr Brown about a range of issues – most of the conversation was about tax and the national debt, not immigration – and the two parted on good terms.

Mrs Duffy even told reporters she was more likely to vote Labour, as the Prime Minister hurried away to his car.

Not realising the microphone he had asked to be fixed to his lapel – the better to pick up chatter with ordinary voters – was still live, he described the encounter to an aide as “a disaster”.

Asked why, the fateful words “bigoted woman” fell from his lips.

There followed a pantomime made for 24-hour news, with Mr Brown soon back at Mrs Duffy’s home, apologising repeatedly while cameras crews salivated outside. Mr Cameron wisely said nothing, unable to believe his good fortune.

It was a good week to be Mr Cameron. The polls were already showing progress in clawing back ground lost to the Liberal Democrats, and the TV debate was another successful outing.

In his closing statement Mr Cameron said, “I think we can do even better in the years ahead”, while in his own remarks Mr Brown appeared to concede his rival could be about to take power.

It spoke volumes. Mr Clegg had, by his extraordinary recent standards, an average sort of week. But he’s already done enough to shake up the campaign and, who knows, break the political mould.

He wasn’t as fluent on Thursday – even he, it turns out, is a mere political mortal.

There was more to this week, of course. Greece teetered on the brink of bankruptcy, a warning to countries with high levels of public debt of what can happen without remedial action.

The Governor of the Bank of England suggested what many were thinking – that spending cuts after the election will have to be so harsh that whoever implements them can forget about winning another election for a good few years.

And yet Thursday night saw a pretty comprehensive rehearsal of the parties’ positions, with Labour and the Conservatives clashing over whether National Insurance should go up, and the Liberal Democrats advocating a big rise in the threshold at which income tax should be paid. There was even a brief mention of cuts, too.

Professor Luke Georghiou, of Manchester University’s business school, was a little more sceptical. He said: “There were lots of repetitive comments on personal taxation and the iniquities of bankers but much less engagement with how we could restore a reasonable rate of economic growth.

“The result of this is that we were unable to hear an integrated discussion about the complex issues involved in economic recovery. Many of the measures proposed interact with each other – the cuts will inevitably increase unemployment and the cost of benefits unless these are drastically slashed. The size of the deficit depends upon future growth but this was vague territory.”

The polls suggest Mr Cameron will be Prime Minister in a few days’ time, although it remains far from certain whether he will have to rely on Mr Clegg to achieve this.

Voters around the UK were given a useful reminder too that the Liberal Democrats are not the only game in town – the idea of an agreement between the Tories and Plaid Cymru and the SNP finally got some coverage in the London press.

Plaid leader Ieuan Wyn Jones, at a press conference in Westminster, described the Lib Dems as “unreliable partners” in any coalition talks.

If only, Mr Jones must have been feeling, he could have got onto the TV debates to make that very point.

Maidenhead candidates debate the £16bn Crossrail bid

The scheme will connect Maidenhead in Berkshire to Shenfield, Essex

Maidenhead's parliamentary candidates have backed the Crossrail scheme, which will run through London connecting Berkshire with Essex.

The £16bn project - linking Maidenhead with the capital - is expected to be completed by 2017.

The Conservatives say they want to make sure public money is spent effectively.

The Liberal Democrats say they want to reduce taxpayer funding. Labour says it plans to finish the scheme on time, if it is re-elected.

The 72-mile route will include a link to Heathrow airport and will run through central London and out eastwards to Shenfield in Essex.

Faster journeys

Conservative candidate Theresa May told BBC Radio Berkshire: "We are absolutely clear that Crossrail is an important infrastructure project for London but obviously also for Maidenhead.

"We have got it in our manifesto, we will want to make sure the public sector money element of Crossrail is being spent effectively and properly.

"But crucially for Maidenhead we need to ensure we are going to get fast services still on the main line and I want to see fast services on Crossrail as well."

Lib Dem candidate Tony Hill told BBC Radio Berkshire: "I hope that all infrastructure projects will be looked at very carefully and will go ahead.

"Crossrail is very important - we need it because it is going to bring business to Maidenhead.

"We have got to make sure that the rail lines that go from Twyford to Maidenhead to London continue to provide fast services for all the commuters who live in the area."

Labour candidate Pat McDonald: "I think we can safely say that Crossrail will go ahead.

"Anything that makes a commuter's life easier has got to be a good thing because it can be an absolute nightmare going through the London Underground first thing in the morning.

"Anything that brings business into Maidenhead for the people of Maidenhead is a terrific idea."

Nothing could be further from the straight [as universally defined, conceived and understood] than that title as associated with Andrew Neil.

Andrew Neil’s voice reaches a high pitch as he feigns to criticise uk con party fronter [regionally adjusted! during the ‘election 2010’] Kenneth Clarke on the latter’s diffidence on spelling out the spending cuts!

Neil is one of the ills that the BBC keeps on foisting upon the body politic. What licence payer licensed the BBC bureaucracy to engage the persistent vehicle of lies?

What purpose does this slot serve? When was the last time that any of the four slots permanently given to Andrew Neil on the BBC broadcasting networks broke any story, uncovered any secrets and served any principle of democracy, audit and accountability in the UK? It could not do that. So why does the BBC keep him slotted? The answer must be to suppress the truth. To hide the truth.

Like Tom Edwards has done in the past day or so in his online plug for CRASSrail. Although Edwards has not, as the ‘BBC London News’ ‘transport’ reporter [so far] committed [as in perpetrated] anything as blatantly dishonest as Andrew WhwineStonlie did for Crossrail [on the day that Rod Eddington had officially published his report on the furtive of railways in the UK], he is equally in the grip of the Big Biz touting agenda that must exert such power in setting the BBC’s news and factual propgrammes.

Today, the Mail on Sunday [25 April 2010] publishes details of how Ruth Kelly behaved dishonestly over and in 'transferring' her 'geography' so that her children could escape the wonderful misery that most parents are condemned to accept for their children in Tower Hamlets! What a good example of Crossrail carrying benefits galore for the 'deprived East End'! KHOODEELAAR! says again: every single one of the tout in post in the past 7 years that ahs touted for Crossrail ahs been found to have been a faker, a sleaze ball, an expenses fiddler or worse. How can THESE people be treated as good sources of honest information? What basis can there be on the facts to say that only because a Ruth Kelly says Crossrail is ‘good’ so we must fund it to the tune of £Billions? What does Geoff Hoon possess, by way of morality, ethics and truthfulness, that makes him a more reliable source of judgement than the ordinary people who have to put up with the costs, the debts, the causal deprivations and the correlated denials and cuts [to NHS, schools, employment, housing] of the waste that these postholders cause as they serve Big Bossiness looting the UK public and depriving the UK public? Crass role by Crassrail-peddler Ruth Kelly! Ruth Kelly whose sluttish whisper we pointed out in our latest update of our questions to her and her co-touts for the Big Business agenda wasteful scam CrossRail only in the past 24 hours, was, of course the UK Transport Secretary when she resigned as part of the last Bliaring putsch as part of the mini-bid to oust the BLIARing ‘rival’ Gordon Brown out of No 10 Downing Street. What a Crass role model! How could Ruth Kelly be trusted on her sluttish whisper for CrossRail? Those cringe-making words uttered by her on camera [5 October 2007] in an even more cringe-making way than any of her contextually known and citable co-‘Bliar-Babes’ could be accused of being capable of…She was never one of the people as far as the 'most deprived’ borough Tower Hamlets was concerned. No one in the East End, unless they were in some secret arrangement or dubious deal or trade that was not an ordinary, decent way of earning a living, who was on an ordinary income, could dream of doing the things that she was doing whist still claiming to live in the same borough. The offensive claim that she was [and probably still is] married to a former Tower Hamlets Borough Council [Bliaring] councillor was also misleading as it gave the additional false impression that she had married one of the ‘designated depriveds’. The truth was a hundred miles away from that kind of fabricated image making. Just as the Canary Wharf station – so overly hyped by the liars touting on for Big Business agenda scam CrossRail- is from the typically ordinary and neglected and deprived parts of the inner London borough of Tower Hamlets. As the truth of the ‘regeneration’ of any parts of the East End as touted by Ruth Kelly’s co-peddler, Ken Livingstone [same date, 5 October 2007] Now, the disclosure about her dishonesty and opportunism over her children’s schooling comes in the Mail on Sunday today [25 April 2010] showing her hypocrisy and her utter contempt for any standard of equality for the ordinary people. As far as she is concerned, the ordinary people can rot in their deprivation while the likes of Ruth Kelly move on and 'provide for their children'. What the likes of Ruth Kelly do and have been doing for years is to condemn the ordinary people to low standards or no standards. When she took her own children away from the 'comprehensive' schools OPTION she had in Tower Hamlets and put them in exclusive ones that ordinary Tower Hamlets parents could only dream about, Ruth Kelly showed that as a BLIARing selfish self-seeker she did not have to hide her low standards and morality free ‘life choices’. She could flaunt them and she could do so whilst still putting on a smile as she knew that neither the Bliaring regime nor the Blaring local Tower Hamlets Council corrupt controlling clique was in a position to disown her, let alone to make an example of her by publicly distancing themselves from her misconduct. Misconduct is the word we intend to use and have used. We invite her to provide us with evidence that can truthfully invalidate our use of the word that she is guilty of public misconduct.

All of that stands in sharp contrast to her other image, which the corrupt sections in the ‘mainstream’ 'media’ perpetuated for years, that she was some sort of diehard religiously dedicated Roman Catholic fanatic due to her claimed membership of the sect Opus Dei which she was reported to show in her near-fetishist wearing of a particular piece of excruciatingly painful item of sect-linked ritualistic gear! Some have even tried to link her with very far right tendencies, such as was done in the immediate aftermath of her appointment to the post of Education Secretary by Tony Blair.

The hostile profiles of Ruth Kelly included several references to the Da Vinci Code and its portrayal of the Opus Dei as a nasty outfit involved in sinister activities.

It is our studied view that Ruth Kelly was probably so seriously targeted in THAT propaganda because of the frustration as experienced by Big Business interests which wanted to promote in Britain a whole range of experiments which the Roman Catholic faith forbids and which Ruth Kelly would not therefore support.

Ruth Kelly has behaved as an irresponsible politician. She has failed to address those allegations in public and for that she alone is to be held responsible. Not her faith. Not her Sect. Not even her husband.

Compare her silence on those allegations to her vocal as we have shown, sluttishly whispered promotion of - Yes, a Big Business scam - Crossrail! The mind seriously boggles.

Ruth Kelly has behaved as another MP or now, as a soon to become ex-MP. Grabbing and doing so ruthlessly! Irony, satire and contempt all rolled into that one recitation of her published first name!

And what a trail of moral poverty she has left behind in her once parliamentary constituency in Bolton, Lancs as well!

Ands she was asking the UK public to allow her to waste £Billions on Crossrail! She could not be trusted at all.

History may not always repeat itself first as tragedy then as farce, as Karl Marx said, but there are some very curious and interesting similarities in the latest attempt to get West Ham into the Olympic Stadium.

The tragic episode came back in 2006, so is it possible that we have now reached the stage of farce? And in the end could, as one football chairman told me, the stadium become a place where Tower Hamlets play Shoreditch Grammar School with grass growing out of the seats?

Well, let us go back to 2006 when the last serious attempt was made to make West Ham an anchor tenant for the Olympic Stadium. Richard Caborn, the then Sports Minister, was very keen on it so was Sir Robin Wales, the Mayor of Newham and so were the owners of West Ham.

Indeed Terry Brown, then chairman, saw the move to the Olympic Stadium as crucial to West Ham competing on anything like equal terms with the likes of Chelsea or Arsenal. It also formed a central plank of his desire to sell the club. And on the field of play the club faced relegation.

Out of that cocktail of possibilities the only event that actually materialised was the sale, although Sheffield United fans will forever claim that relegation would and should have happened had West Ham been prevented from paying Carlos Tevez.

The sale had its own drama with Brown and Co not selling to the Russian-born Israeli that Tevez's manager Kia Joorabchian had introduced but to a then rich Icelander. Nevertheless Brown and co still walked away with something close to a £100 million.

Four years later the club has new owners, is again facing relegation and the move to the stadium is back on the agenda. The difference is Messers David Sullivan and David Gold, now see it as crucial to the club's salvation. It is a reflection of the completely altered economic climate that a post-2012 move to Stratford is not meant to make West Ham the equal of Chelsea or Arsenal, more to ensure the club stays afloat.

Given the mess the Icelandic owners created, Sullivan and Gold can hardly hope to walk away with £100 million but are coping with clearing debts of £100 million.

Any talk of football moving to the Olympic stadium means we renew the tennis match, or to borrow Lord Coe's phrase, replay the cracked record of the future of the running track. Sullivan, soon after he completed the takeover, lobbed over the argument that it had to go which promoted a volley back from Coe, the 2012 chairman, that it had to stay.

And this view was reiterated by Baroness Ford, chair of the Olympic Park Legacy Company, in her evidence to MPs last month when she insisted that athletics could co-exist with football. Her words are worth noting, "for me premier athletics must be part of the mix because that was part of the bid commitment."

So can all this be resolved? One man who can claim to have an insight into all this is Barry Hearn, the chairman of Leyton Orient. While West Ham moving to the Olympic Stadium has been the main news, ever since the stadium was planned the default position of the Olympic authorities has been that the League One club could be the anchor tenant and help pay the costs of its upkeep.

I have been talking to Hearn and he tells me that, whatever happens, his club will not be moving to the OIympic Stadium after the 2012 Games. Hearn told me: "For three years we have been talking. Leyton Orient would have loved to have been in the Olympic stadium."

At Brisbane Road Leyton Orient can accommodate 9,000 although at present they average round 5,000. Post-2012 with a 25,000 stadium to fill Hearn felt this "would have given us capacity to grow to perhaps 24,000. But I have told the Olympic authorities we will not be moving there."

Hearn's reasons for turning the move down is simple.

"They have built the wrong stadium. In an athletics stadium the slope of the seats is different, they go up at a different angle to a football stadium. When Seb said, 'I have given my word that the running track must remain,' I said spend money on a hydraulics system, like at Stad de France where seats come forward during football to cover the track. But they did not want to spend the money. A running track kills football. In modern football proximity to players generates the atmosphere."

Hearn is absolutely scathing about what has happened. "We will have spent £500 million plus and in two years we will end up with Tower Hamlets playing Shoreditch Grammar School and grass growing out of the seats. Wonderful, well done boys."

And then, in a voice drained of any hint of sarcasm, he added: "They have built a stadium which will be completely useless after the Olympics, totally, a waste of public money, a disgrace.

"Because they don't listen to anybody, they don't think it through and they don't have common sense. Nobody has taken any responsibility."

Since Hearn turned down a move to Stratford he has closely followed the discussions West Ham are having and is convinced that for all the warm noises coming a deal with West Ham is impossible. A few days ago David Sullivan rang Hearn to tell him he was confident the talks would be successful. Hearn said: "David is a friend of mine but he does not understand the infrastructure and the details at the moment. He is a clever man and, when he does, he will realise the deal with West Ham cannot be done."

Time will tell whether Hearn is right but with Hearn’s rejection of the stadium this does mean it severely limits Baroness Ford’s options to get a workable post 2012 deal.

Options that are even more restricted as a result of Boris Johnson taking over from Ken Livingstone as the London Mayor. Back in 2005 when the cost plans for the Olympic Park were being made Ken Livingstone, essentially on the back of envelope calculations, said he would provide £10 million a year for its upkeep.Johnson was aghast when he heard about it. For him the £10 million a year for the park that Ken talked about has never made any sense.

He is much more concerned with grass roots legacy and he has ring-fenced £15 million which with matching funding is part of the £30 million pot he wants to ensure 2012 will provide a real sporting legacy.

So where will Baroness Ford get the money for her legacy plans and will this not put her under greater pressure to do a football deal with West Ham? But how she can square it with the running track is difficult to see.

All this suggests to me that this stadium story far from being concluded has now entered its most difficult and its most unpredictable phase. If Hearn is proved right this will turn out to be a farce which will produce tears not laughter.
